The factory intake elbow reduces considerably in size from the plenum opening to the airbox, and simply enlarging or smoothing the inlet elbow — the norm for most intakes — has little to no effect on power because the OEM airbox remains the restriction. Infinity's strategy was to create an inlet tube that keeps the cross-sectional area of the plenum opening consistent and then enlarges it, which required redesigning the complete airbox to allow such a large tube to pass through it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe result is an inlet tube significantly larger in volume and cross-sectional area that gradually increases in size toward a large surface-area air filter, allowing the plenum to take in air at its maximum capacity. The bespoke short-stack, high-surface-area filter is larger than any cone filter currently on the market, with a 170mm (6 3\/4\") opening, and is positioned in front of the inlet tube to create the largest possible velocity stack.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003ePerformance Testing\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eDyno tests were performed under strictly controlled conditions on an independent Dyno Dynamics machine using a 100% stock 2012 DCT car with 62,000 miles. The intake produced a genuine, naturally shaped increase of 10-12 hp and 8-10 lb-ft from 6,000-8,300 rpm, with the torque curve nearly identical to stock at low rpm and gains building after 4,000 rpm and especially after 6,000 rpm where air demand is highest.
