When it comes to S85 intake design, the single most important factor is intake air temperature. Most intakes on the market are open designs that allow high-temperature engine-bay air into the system, which is less dense and produces less power — and, less obviously, causes the ECU to detect the higher air temperature and pull ignition timing, significantly reducing power output and throttle response. This is often hidden in dyno tests of open intakes because most are run with the bonnet open.

The Infinity Design intake is fully sealed, with lower inlet air-duct housings meticulously designed for maximum airflow that fit directly into the two large factory air inlet ducts. This creates a perfect seal that keeps intake air temperatures at their lowest at all times. The upper section uses two venturi tubes with integrated MAF housings to smooth airflow, improving throttle response and increasing horsepower — the less the engine has to work to draw air, the more power it can generate.

High-Flow Air Filters

The bespoke short-stack, high-surface-area filters have a huge 170 mm (6¾") opening and sit ahead of the inlet tubes to form the largest possible velocity stack. Both in-house and independent testing has shown intake temperatures equivalent to the OEM system, matching ambient air.

Performance Testing

Dyno tests were performed under strict controlled conditions on an independent Dynojet. The system delivers a realistic gain of 12–15 hp at high rpm, where the OEM intake becomes restrictive — gains that translate to the real world as well as the dyno.
