For the E92 M3 (S65), Infinity Design opted for a complete redesign of the entire airbox. The factory intake elbow reduces considerably in size from the plenum opening to the airbox; simply enlarging or smoothing that elbow — the usual approach — has little effect on power because the OEM airbox itself remains restrictive. Instead, Infinity Design created an inlet tube that keeps the cross-sectional area of the plenum opening consistent and enlarges it, which required a complete airbox redesign to allow such a large tube to pass through.

The result is an inlet tube significantly larger in volume and cross-sectional area that gradually increases in size toward the large surface-area air filter, allowing the plenum to draw air to its maximum capacity.

High-Flow Air Filter

The bespoke short-stack, high-surface-area filter has a huge 170 mm (6¾") opening and is placed ahead of the inlet tube to form the largest possible velocity stack, directing airflow toward the outer walls to take full advantage of the intake tube.

Performance Testing

Dyno tests were performed under strict controlled conditions on an independent Dyno Dynamics machine. The test car was a 100% stock 2012 DCT with 62,000 miles, which recorded a healthy, genuine increase of 10–12 hp and 8–10 lb-ft from 6,000–8,300 rpm. The torque curve is almost identical at low rpm and only begins to gain after 4,000 rpm — especially after 6,000 rpm where air demand is highest — confirming a realistic result. Cars with exhausts that delete the restrictive primary catalytic converters will see similar or higher gains.
